What got me interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field:
As an undergraduate I volunteered as a medical assistant at a health clinic for the destitute in Calcutta, India, which was affiliated with Mother Teresa’s organization. The faith, heart for service, and compassion of Mother Teresa had an integral impact upon me. I experienced the joy and honor to care for others and by the end of my three-month excursion sensed a divine calling to pursue medicine. By God’s enabling grace He has carried me every step of my training, provided many medical mission opportunities, and now has given me the privilege to serve at College Park Family Care.
Core beliefs about practicing medicine:
1. I believe that the whole person must be addressed in order for optimal health and well-being. Plato stated: “The part can never be well unless the whole is well.” A person is multi-dimensional and the emotional, spiritual, and physical components do inter-relate and impact one another. I encourage wellness of the entire person.
2. I believe that I am first and foremost a comforter. A 19th century physician Dr. Edward Trudeau explicated that the medical vocation is “to cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.” I desire to actively listen, to pray if desired, and to be fully present with patients during ups and downs of life. I seek to pursue with excellence all that Western medicine has to offer in order to foster healing, yet I am fully cognizant of its limitations.
3. I believe that medical decisions need to be decided together with honest and transparent conversations. I seek to be an advocate and to provide pros and cons of each medical approach, to be supportive of alternative means (as long as not harmful), and to work together for optimal and individualized care for each patient.
My interests/hobbies:
I enjoy reading, especially Christian theology and Biblical studies, dance, hiking/back packing (nothing like those CO mountains!), cross-cultural medical missions/outreaches/friendships (proficient in Spanish), cooking/leisurely meals, traveling, and almost any outdoor adventure.
Family:
I am a smitten Aunt over the two most adorable nephews whom I must visit in Connecticut at least every few months as well as most of my family who also reside in the beautiful land of New England – but certainly not as wonderful as Kansas/Missouri.
My Favorite Personal Quote:
“I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full. Jesus (John 10:10)
