What got me interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field:
Originally in college I majored in Chemistry/Pre-Med and had planned on going into medicine. However, what caused me to go into medicine was not my studies in pre-med but an “academic tangent”…..my time spent at Seminary. During my time at Seminary I spent some time in inner city ministry and became interested in meeting the needs of the indigent population. While in an inner city medical clinic I began to better understand what it meant for me to be of service to people, not just in a spiritual sense but also in a way that would incorporate my love for science. The combination of my pre-med studies, my Seminary training, and wanting to be of service to others led me to pursuing a career in medicine. I have since had no regrets in pursuing this field!
Core beliefs about practicing medicine:
I am a firm believer in patient autonomy. As my patient’s healthcare consultant it is my job to be a source of information regarding disease prevention, cutting edge treatments, and expected prognoses. In being this, my hope is to empower my patients to be educated about their healthcare and partner with me in making medical decisions that will impact their lives.
My interests/hobbies:
Spending time with the love of my life, Hilary, and our little girl, Abigail. Together we like getting out and going to parks, going on long walks, watching movies, shopping. I’m also very involved in our church.
Family:
My wife, Hilary, works down the hall from me as a provider and keeps me on-task. Together we observe and keep Fridays as our sacred donut days. Our daugther, Abigail, is precocious, adorable, independent, and full of life. Together with my wife, they are a constant reminder of how incredibly blessed I am. We also have a dog, Milly (Mildred Magdelene – “Milly Mags”), our little Shih-Tzu.
